Dua Lipa has returned to her solo music with her latest single "Houdini". Serving as the first single from her upcoming album, Dua Lipa is officially back. Weeks before the release date, Dua started teasing this new era via Instagram and through secret messages online. This single follows her commercial and critical success "Future Nostalgia". Having various songs in the top 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, "Future Nostalgia" has garnered over 11 billion streams on Spotify. This album has broken a handful of records and won Dua "Best Pop Vocal Album" at the 63rd Grammy Awards. Dua Lipa is no stranger when it comes to making catchy, rhythmic, and addictive pop songs. With "Houdini", she did just that.

"Houdini" has a retro, funky and house feel to it in comparison to her previous album. "Future Nostalgia" has an 80s dance atmosphere to most of its tracks, so this new sound she is going for is a little different than her past work. "Houdini" features production and writing from renowned psychedelic producer and musician Tame Impala (Kevin Parker). It was also produced by Danny L Harle, who also helped write the song. Tame Impala is known for their style and uniqueness when it comes to production and overall sonics. Together they created a rythmic, funky, and dreamy song to kick off this new era. This song was sonically interesting and highly enjoyable to follow. The melodies were fun and witty and made the song flow very well. Overall, this track shows Dua in a different light and leads excitement to what she's going to put out next.

Lyrically, "Houdini" has strong metaphors and messages of freedom when it comes to a relationship. It shows Dua is not afraid to get up and leave whenever she sees fit, but she is also willing to hunker down and stay in the relationship. She, like Harry Houdini, holds all the cards in this relationship and is the main player. Dua demonstrates her power with lyrics like "I'm not here for long, Catch me or I go, "Houdini" and "Maybe you could be the one to make me stay". The clever lyrics in this song further push the narrative of the power that Dua holds. She comes across more confident than ever. This is evident in lyrics like "Prove you got the right to please me". "Houdini" features writing credits from Dua herself, Caroline Ailin, Tobaiss Jesso Jr., Kevin Parker, and Danny L Harle.

Overall, this song is a very strong return for Dua and is in line to be her next hit. "Houdini" is the lead single from her upcoming third album, which is expected to drop next year. This single was released under Warner Records.
