Powerful, Punchy, And Poised "Guts" Cements Olivia Rodrigo's Place In Music.

Olivia Rodrigo has made her triumphant return with her sophomore album "Guts". "Guts" follows her insanely successful debut "Sour" which broke an immense amount of records and took home 3 Grammy Awards. "Guts' shows Olivia in a more mature and fueled state. She has a lot to say and isn't afraid of saying it loud and clear. This album features writing credits from veteran Rodrigo collaborator Dan Nigro as well as Julia Michales, Amy Allen, and Rodrigo herself. The production features Dan Nigro, Alexander 23, Ryan Lynvill, and Rodrigo herself. "Guts" has a very selective list of studio personnel, making it feel more intimate, like a diary entry. This album boasts lushes and layered production with a fun and punk style to the songs. This album really showcases all the talent Olivia Rodrigo has. Powerful, punchy, and poised "Guts" cements Olivia Rodrigo's place in music.

The lead single "Vampire" was the perfect power ballad to open the audience to this new era. Followed by "bad idea right?" which gives the audience a deeper look into Olivia's life and showcases a pop-punk vibe with unusual production that makes it so unique. It will be interesting to see which song Olivia chooses to make the next single as practically all the songs have the power to be the next radio hit. While listening to this album, the songs separate themselves into two categories, the ballads that she does so well, and the big production punk tracks she is so excellent at. With a few songs that walk the bridge between, this album is cohesive and representative of the gap since "Sour". "Guts" is what "Sour" wishes it was, louder, bigger, and more mature.

Songs like "ballad of a homeschooled girl", "love is embarrassing", and "get him back!" are perfect examples of the power and punch that Olivia has. These songs are addictive in nature and have an amazing replay value making the listener want to play them again and again. "Ballad of a homeschooled girl" has the grit and sonics that propel this high school disgust narrative that Roridgo has been toying with the whole album. She dives deep into the uncomfortable and ugly feelings that happen at that point in someone's life. She has powerful vocals, addictive sonics, and provoking lyrics. Slower songs like "lacy", "logical", and "making the bed", showcase Rodrgio's songwriting abilities. These songs, which are sadder than the rest, do a great job representing the full picture of the homeschool melancholic experiences she has been detailing throughout her career. She excels on these types of songs and doesn't disappoint with the others on the tracklist as well.

This powerful sophomore album was released under Interscope Records and has a deluxe coming at some point. Olivia has placed an abundance of deluxe tracks on the different vinyl varitants leading fans to anticipate even more songs. It will be very interesting to see how this album performs in its first week, as well as the nominations it is bound to grab at the Grammys this year. Oliva Rodrigo's "Guts" is available everywhere now!
