"The Hype", Sigrid's Latest Single

"The Hype" is the title of the latest single from the Norwegian pop star Sigrid. This standalone single follows her 2022 album "How To Let Go". This album was filled with mid-tempo and upbeat pop songs that she is well known for. The lead single from this album, "Mirror" boasts a confident, upbeat, and fun vibe to it. When listening to this song all the elements just jump out in a very European dance way. Her latest single turns away from the sound she had on her last album.

"The Hype" features writing and production from both Sigrid herself and Nick Hahn. When pressing play on this song, one could think of many different routes it could go in but, the one she chose was unexpected. Moments like the pre-chorus help drive the more full production and darker sound this song has. Sigrid's vocals on this track are clear as always and show maturity from her debut. The production complements the vocals and message this song has to convey perfectly.

Lyrically this song is very interesting. Sigrid is telling a story about a lover who seems to only be interested in her due to her success and notoriety. Lyrics like "You held me like a trophy" help demonstrate this frustration she has in the relationship. She keeps asking "Did you ever love me?" a lot in this song which exemplifies the questioning and frustration she embodied while with this person. The lyrics help paint a story that sticks out throughout the song.

"The Hype" was a perfect follow-up after Sigrid's last album. It shows growth from her previous projects and leaves the opportunity for her to start her next album cycle. This song was released under Island Records and is hopefully off her third studio album which could be expected from late 2023 to early 2024.
